Lamborghini Goes Electric With The Two-Door GT In The Following Years

When you want to expand your program for a battery-electric model in the automotive industry, the process isn’t as easy as it might seem. Lamborghini only now got its bosses approval for this step towards its long-mooted fourth model line -their first battery-electric model.

The plans are getting more serious since Stephan Winkelmann confirmed it to become a two-door four-seat grand tourer available for its customers in the next 4 years. The new concept will follow Lamborghini’s announced Direzione Cor Tauri road map, including its plug-in hybrid powertrains by the end of 2024.

Winkelmann confirmed that the program is still in its initial development stage and no decision about its final form has been made. As he confirmed, this vehicle will be at least a 2+2 or four-seater in an interview with Autocar. There are still decisions to make about the body style or the power output of the electric vehicle.

The Direzione Cor Tauri roadmap is a more than £1.3 billion of investment in PHEV technology for the next four years and should become a good step towards the environmental impact they’re bringing through the building cars process. This is just another step to the next level. Actually, there are two steps that follow – one being the analysis of body style and volumes in this segment, and the second one is the match to the platforms in the Volkswagen Group for the best solution.”

This is a marketing strategy to grow its sales volumes. We could expect the new performance-focused, EV-specific PPE platform developed by Porsche and Audi, or it could be the forthcoming SSP architecture designed to accommodate a wide range of electric motors and battery pack technology. Talking about powertrains, the Lamborghini EV could use motors shared with Porsche and Audi, or could partner up with Rimac for a late-gen EV technology. So, what do you thing of a two door Lamborghini?
