Kia has confirmed that the Euro-spec Sportage will be available on September 1st. While the new model has previously been revealed, this is the first time European consumers will receive a dedicated edition.

The firm is being tight-lipped about specifics, but it has stated that the model caters especially to European sensibilities. The crossover has also been carefully tuned to provide excellent driving and handling qualities for European roads.

Notably, the European Sportage will be lighter than the international model, which has risen in size. Kia did not provide dimensions but did state that the “European version spiritually succeeds the 4th generation” version in terms of size.

Kia has published a few teaser photos in addition to the basic details. They reveal that the crossover will have an Opposites United design concept, as well as a recognizable front appearance with a unique grille flanked by Matrix LED headlights and boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights.

While the front end is similar to the worldwide Sportage, there are a few differences behind the A-pillar. The Euro-spec variant is considerably shorter and lacks the third quarter window. A black roof and a more prominent C-pillar are also visible. In contrast, the rear end looks to carry over.

The European Sportage will be introduced on September 1st, at 11:00 a.m. CEST, and will be on sale later that year. Motor options are yet unknown, although they may be shared with the international model, which has turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel.

Kia has also revealed plans for a plug-in hybrid Sportage, which will be unveiled at the Munich Motor Show and will include a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, a 13.8 kWh battery pack, and a 90 hp (67 kW / 91 PS) electric engine.
