Jiangnan U2 Is A 1980s Suzuki Alto-Inspired EV

Jiangnan Automobile, previously known for manufacturing a budget-friendly car based on the Suzuki Alto in China, is making a return with a much more advanced and updated vehicle. The Jiangnan U2 is not an entirely original creation, as it borrows heavily from the Ruixiang Hoen O2 manufactured by BAIC.

Despite having similar body components, it has a distinct appearance, with reported references to the Jiangnan TT (2001–2010), a rebranded version of the second generation Suzuki Alto (1984–88) that was sold in China.

The Jiangnan U2 has also a similar design to the Ruixiang Hoen O2, featuring a compact hood, minimal front and rear overhangs, and a streamlined windshield for improved aerodynamics. It also has flush door handles, a two-tone appearance, a large panoramic sunroof, a rear spoiler, and substantial 17-inch alloy wheels.

According to Autohome, the Jiangnan U2 will have two powertrain options producing either 74 horsepower and 88.5 lb-ft of torque or 107 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque, both driving the front wheels. There will also be two options for lithium iron phosphate batteries that provide an electric range of 190 miles or 252 miles.

The cost of the Jiangnan U2 and its expected release date in China have not been announced yet; however, given that the company was previously known for producing cost-effective vehicles, it is likely to be reasonably priced.
