It's Official: Lucid Air Will Feature A DreamDrive System

The Air, Lucid's first vehicle, will have a feature called DreamDrive, which is a collection of the company's most advanced driver aid systems. When it launches, users can expect several new features as well as information about how the firm expects to maintain and update the technology.

DreamDrive will help the driver stay in the middle of their track and keep a fixed distance from the automobile ahead. Off-highway, DreamDrive can help drivers park, using automatic parallel and perpendicular parking assistance.

Whereas these technologies are common in premium vehicles, Lucid says its DreamDrive system is extremely simple to comprehend and use. An advanced driver monitoring system should help address the issue of driver distractibility that has recently plagued the usage of advanced driver assistance systems. Its 21-speaker sound system will also be used to alert the driver of risks around curves.

The fact that DreamDrive is overengineered may be its best selling point. The Air has up to 32 sensors aboard, including 14 cameras, five radar units, and LiDAR sensors to keep the ADAS systems functioning well. Lucid Air also has a “Ethernet Ring” that connects sensors in all four corners of the car. The business claims this last technology will enable “hands-off, eyes-off” driving. Lucid Air began production last month, with deliveries expected later this month.
