Prepare to be enthralled by the epitome of Japanese opulence – the Toyota Century SUV. Unveiled in Japan, this limited-production masterpiece represents the next evolution of chauffeur-driven vehicles and serves as a high-riding counterpart to the distinguished Century sedan. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain, coupled with a lavish four-seater cabin, sets a new standard for luxury and comfort.

In response to the changing demands of the modern world, Toyota recognized the need to reimagine the luxury chauffeur experience. Passengers now seek to utilize their travel time more effectively, whether for relaxation or virtual meetings. To meet these evolving expectations, Toyota introduces the Century SUV, adopting the commanding stance of an SUV, thus becoming Japan's answer to the likes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga.

Design and Elegance

The Century SUV embodies elegance with a minimalist yet striking design. The vehicle, adorned with the iconic phoenix emblem in lieu of traditional Toyota badges, draws inspiration from the regal Rolls-Royce. It features a chrome-infused greenhouse and a sweeping character line, which add to its sophisticated presence.

The LED headlights and taillights, almost split in appearance, evoke a touch of Genesis. The exterior boasts a range of seven different shades, with five of them receiving a bi-tone finish achieved through meticulous polishing of the bodywork.

A Spacious Haven

The interior of the Century SUV is a sanctuary of tranquility and comfort. Designed with rear-seat passengers in mind, the wide rear doors open to a generous 75-degree angle, complemented by retractable power steps and C-pillar grips for effortless entry.

For added convenience, Toyota offers an option for sliding rear doors, as showcased on the GR-branded prototype during its debut.

Within the cabin, passengers are treated to fully reclining heated and ventilated rear seats with extendable footrests, akin to first-class air travel. A "refreshment function" ensures passengers arrive at their destination feeling rejuvenated.

Rear occupants enjoy a host of amenities, including 11.6-inch displays, a refrigerated compartment, intuitive touchscreen controls, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium audio system inspired by the craftsmanship of musical instruments. At the front, a digital cockpit featuring dual 12.3-inch displays combines cutting-edge technology with exquisite materials that grace every surface.

Power and Performance

Under the Century SUV's imposing hood resides a 3.5-liter V6 plug-in hybrid powertrain, delivering power to all four wheels via an e-CVT gearbox and the E-Four Advanced AWD system. This configuration produces a robust combined output of 406 hp (303 kW / 412 PS) and offers an impressive zero-emission range of up to 69 km (43 miles).

While the V6 may not boast the thunderous presence of the V8 found in the current Century sedan or the legendary V12 of its predecessors, it enables the SUV to function as a serene battery electric vehicle in urban settings and seamlessly transition to a hybrid for extended highway journeys.

The Century SUV is also equipped with "Dynamic Rear Steering," enhancing maneuverability at low speeds. A novel "Rear Comfort mode" prioritizes rear passenger comfort, ensuring a journey that's as smooth as possible.

Limited Availability and Personalization

The Century SUV is a rare gem, available at select dealerships in Japan, with a targeted production of 30 units per month at the Tahara Plant. The order books are open, and the first deliveries are expected in 2023. Pricing starts at ¥25,000,000 ($169,580), reflecting the remarkable craftsmanship and exclusivity of this vehicle. It may seem steep for a Toyota, but in comparison to offerings from Rolls-Royce or Bentley, it's a compelling proposition.

Toyota Century SUV

Toyota recognizes that discerning buyers seek personalization. To meet this demand, they are offering extensive customization options for the Century SUV. A dedicated group known as the "Century Meisters" comprising salespeople and engineers will assist prospective buyers in tailoring the vehicle to their specific needs.

Moreover, one-of-a-kind commissions, such as a cabriolet SUV teased in images, will be crafted by "master craftspeople." Intriguingly, the vehicle will be "fully customizable on a global basis," opening the doors for interested buyers beyond Japan to experience this pinnacle of luxury.
