Intel Mobileye Robotaxi Unveiled

At the Munich Motor Show, Intel Mobileye robotaxi was on display. Modeled after the Nio ES8, it features 11 distinct cameras, radar sensors, and a variety of lidar units, in addition to several other sensors.

All this is handled by the Mobileye Drive system, which has eight EyeQ 5 SoCs and is tiny enough to place in a compartment under the floor. There's also a "Responsibility-Sensitive Safety driving policy" and a "True Redundancy sensing solution" with cams, radar, and lidar detectors.

Aside from the fact that it's redundant, there are two separate layers of sensors that work individually. In the first layer, there are the cams, and in the second layer, there are radar and lidar sensors, respectively. This should increase safety, as one layer may function as a support for the other.

From next year, Intel's Mobileye robotaxi will be utilized in commercial ride-hailing services in Munich and Tel Aviv. SIXT app users in Germany will also have the option to book rides using the SIXT app, which will be operated under the MoovitAV brand. There will be a test launch in Germany, but the firm will go into commercial business if regulatory clearance is received in the country, according to the company.

Since the Mobileye Drive system can be deployed in many different types of cars, Intel believes it is the most adaptable self-driving system currently available.
