One branch committee of the Council of Europe, European Network of Law Enforcement Technology Services has proposed the development of a universal system for any car sold in the EU, allowing engine shutdown from distance by authorities.
The initiative aims to avoid highly dangerous chases. The proposal came from three countries: Netherlands, the UK and Romania, and the tests for this kind of system will be carried out until September 2015.
If all goes as planned, the European Union will issue a directive, which will become mandatory for all member countries. Along with this system that can stop any engine from distance, specialized branches of EU also is testing a system called "Intelligent Speed Adaptation" which can limit the maximum speed of any car to a predefined value in a particular area (such as 60 kmph in settlements).
