If You're Looking For Something Cheap And Retro, The 2022 Toyota Probox Is Your Best Bet

In the car business, there are vehicles that we don't even know about. Toyota Probox is an excellent example. Toyota first unveiled the Probox in Japan in 2002, and an upgraded version was released in 2014. Rather than the general public, the vehicle is aimed towards the commercial light van sector.

When you peek inside the cabin and realize how basic it is, you can see why. The instrument cluster consists mostly of a large speedometer with a tiny digital display under it. The dash is even simpler. A phone holder is located close to the steering wheel, which is useful for employees. There isn't even an infotainment system, and even a stereo head piece isn't something that comes standard.

However, in Japan, where low-frills versions like this leave the choice to the owner to choose which one to install after the car is purchased, this isn't surprising. The HVAC controls are simple. The temperature and fan settings are controlled via two circular control panels, while the options are shown in an orange display.

Toyota Probox now comes with three engines: a 1.3-liter four-cylinder with 94 hp (70 kW), a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 107 hp (80 kW), and a hybrid-assisted 1.5-liter. A CVT is standard on all versions, and a front- or all-wheel drive is available.

We just found out about the Probox since Toyota recently announced a lineup increase. On January 6, 2022, the new GX grade will be introduced in Japan. Power front windows, power-folding mirrors, an AC100V/100W auxiliary outlet, and privacy glass will be included.

At current currency rates, prices for Toyota Probox vary from 1.491 million yen ($13,054) to 2.014 million yen ($17,632). At 1.790 million yen ($15,6701), the new GX falls in the center. These are the costs before the car recycling charge in Japan.
