Hyundai Group Active Air Skirt Technology Enhances Electric Vehicle Range

The Hyundai Group has just developed a new technology designed to increase the range of zero-emission cars. Specifically, it's active aerodynamics, which extends the range by 6 km (3.72 miles).
Active aerodynamics is designed to improve straight-line and cornering performance at high speeds, but also to increase safety by improving stability when necessary. Seeing a need in the market for this kind of technology, the Hyundai Group set out to provide it. This new tech will be standard on all electric vehicles from Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia.
The system is called Active Air Skirt and consists of two aerodynamic elements that extend from the front bumper to reduce drag. The technology becomes active automatically at 80 km/h. According to the group, during tests with the Genesis GV60, the extension of these aerodynamic elements resulted in a 2.8% reduction in drag.
As we already mentioned, the range has also increased by 6 km (3.72 miles). It should be noted that the technology also works at speeds above 200 km/h (124 mph). The bars are automatically retracted when the car reaches a speed of 70 km/h (43 mph).
The technology is currently in the development phase. The Hyundai Group is exploring the possibility of incorporating this technology into their upcoming electric models, once they have completed rigorous durability and performance tests.
