How NASCAR’s Next Gen Cup Cars Are Better Than The Previous Ones?

NASCAR has great plans for the years with the Next Gen cars by making them, the future generation of chassis for the Cup Series. The main goal is to create more cost-effective cars for race teams and car manufacturers, while simultaneously enhancing driver safety. 

Nicknamed Gen-7, the cars will be at the 2022 Cup Series season and they also must be more attractive to OEMs (road car manufacturers) to join Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota in NASCAR competition to also build more road-going cars. There’s a new style to come, new aerodynamics for the vehicle.

The American most popular racing category is the Furniture Row Racing no success was registered when Martin Truex Jr. left the sport after the champions in 2017 Since then, this sport had no future viability nor direction. Sponsorship revenues were also fearing many uncertainties for ever-rising costs and due to the pandemic, things got even worse.

Now that Jim France returned as CEO, NASCAR was given the unique chance to develop new car design, much more flexibility on its schedule and race formats.  As you’ve guessed already, the Next-Gen car differs from previous by incorporating many common parts manufactured from over 30 single-source suppliers, instead of building themselves.

NASCAR will use the same car remains of steel tubular frame construction with the safety improved by removing the seat 1.6-inches further towards the center of the car, and the door bars moved outwards to protect from the side. Meanwhile, the aerodynamics can be adaptable to each kind of track providing the best racing. It is the first time when a NASCAR vehicle features a diffuser under the rear of the car.
