GTO Engineering Has A Final Design For The New Squalo V12 Sports Car

Finally, we got a new glimpse at the latest sports car from our beloved GTO Engineering along with a name and a design to fulfill our dreams. Dubbed the Squalo V12, the names sends us to the direct translation from Italian as shark, while the V12 gives a direct statement towards the engine specifications.

It's no news that this one is also a tribute to the beautiful Ferrari 250 GTO combined with modern hardware to make the Squalo a remarkable car. Earlier unveiled as ‘Project Moderna’, GTO’s team adapted their schedule and used the Squalo sports car instead due to the similarly named COVID-19 vaccine. Situational adaptation is a situational case to bring something hopeful to its customers, right?

The sketches show the new GTO Squalo as an exciting driving machine, with a weight under 220-pounds (1,000 kg) powered by a quad-cam naturally aspirated V12 engine coupled to a manual gearbox. Especially for this model, they designed bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in model-specific tires that are currently in the development process.

The carmaker also revealed some sketches for the engine were also to show off several weight-saving engineering upgrades and great aesthetics. You no longer see an engine fueled by carbs to five a visual glimpse at the open trumpets under the car's bonnet. Seems like, more about the engine will be released later, next month - characteristics such as size, output numbers, or the target weight.

According to GTO Engineering managing director and founder Mark Lyon, “It’s often the small parts of a car that take the longest time. We’re now at a stage where the design models are being created here in the UK and soon we will announce our technical partners working with us on the exterior manufacturing and interiors, as well as wheels and tires. In all my years working in the [automotive] industry, I’ve never been as excited about the creativity of manufacturing and design as I am now.”

GTO Engineering has already received orders for the Squalo and since the concept is gaining popularity, they schedule to deliver the first examples in 2023.
