Gordon Murray Automotive Will Use V-12 Engines As Long As Laws Permit

It's no surprise that big-displacement engines are being phased out. Emissions rules and legislation are driving automakers to reduce and electrify, resulting in fewer new V-12-powered vehicles on the road than ever before. Despite its recent investment in future electric chassis and powertrains, Gordon Murray Automotive, the modest British business behind the gorgeous T.50, claims it has no plans to leave the V-12 anytime soon.

GMA recently announced a variety of initiatives for the brand's future development, including a $424 million investment in present operations, and the establishment of a new division called Gordon Murray Electronics.

According to the brand, the new division would create advanced electric powertrains for larger automotive and tech industries. GMA claims to have started work on its electric vehicle design, which will be utilized in urban passenger cars and delivery trucks.

Chairman Gordon Murray stated in a release: “The automotive future will be increasingly electrified and it’s essential that we design the world’s lightest, most efficient, and advanced EVs. This significant investment in Gordon Murray Design and the formation of Gordon Murray Electronics will be realizing that goal. Advanced work is already underway, and we will be sharing more news on our exciting all-electric platform soon.”

Gordon Murray Automotive, on the other hand, will not make the switch to 100% electric power right now. Murray understands the importance of the V-12 engine and will not relinquish it until absolutely necessary. He noted: "We are not abandoning internal combustion power. We will continue to create the pinnacle of driver’s cars, with V-12 petrol power as long as the regulations allow and in the future, we will develop our own hybrid and electric powertrains."
