GMC Unveils New Details About The Sierra EV, Its Second Electric Pickup

Hummer EV isn't GMC's only electric truck on the way. The truck was joined by a more popular GMC full-size truck from GM last November. It'll be a professional grade variant of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, and the company shared a few details about it during a press conference.

While officials have yet to clarify whether the vehicle would be known as the Sierra EV, Roadshow has released a teaser image of the future car, which looks considerably different from the Hummer EV.

The truck is coated by a sheet, so there's not much to observe, but it seems to be a single or double cab pickup with a bulging hood and nearly vertical front fascia.

Very little is revealed about the vehicle, but according to MotorTrend, it will not be as tough as Hummer EV. That's hardly unexpected, given that Sierra EV is expected to be more popular and accessible.

GMC has been silent regarding the truck's release date, although GM has previously stated that it wants to debut 30 electric vehicles globally by 2025. By 2023, several important high-volume entries will be available, however, it's uncertain whether the Sierra EV will be one of them. GM has previously stated that 4 electric GMC cars, including a pickup by 40 months, had been “pulled ahead."

While Sierra EV will most likely be a few years away, the GMC Hummer EV will be available this fall. It will be accompanied by the Hummer SUV in early 2023, and the Silverado and Sierra EVs' powertrains will probably be shared with entry-level Hummer models.

A dual motor system capable of delivering up to 625 hp (466 kW / 634 PS) could be used. Furthermore, similar to Silverado EV, we may anticipate a range of more than 400 miles (644 km).
