The GMC Savana Is A Time Capsule On Wheels, Still Ready For Work In 2025

Think automakers have forgotten how to keep things simple? Not GMC. The Savana, a workhorse born in 1996, is still going strong. Rugged, reliable, and refreshingly old-school—it’s a reminder that some things never go out of style.

Rumors suggest that 2025 may be the final year for the model, but for now, the GMC Savana remains a viable option. Starting at $49,245 (a $2,450 bump from last year), it’s not exactly a bargain.

However, considering inflation and the van’s reputation for simplicity and durability, it’s not outrageous either. With fewer modern gizmos to break, it’s a trusty workhorse. The no-frills dashboard is a time capsule, proudly showing its age. GMC keeps things straightforward with two trims—LS and LT—and two gas engines: a 4.3-liter V6 or a beefy 6.6-liter V8.

While the diesel options are no longer available, you can still choose from a variety of colors such as Summit White, Cardinal Red, Onyx Black, and Quicksilver Metallic. There’s a surprising number of add-ons, too. A sliding passenger door sets you back just $195, while side steps go for $795.

Want remote start? That’ll set you back $300. Need Bluetooth or keyless entry? Those are extra too—$200 and $225, respectively. The quirkiest add-on? Shelling out $10 just for an outside temperature display. For those who prioritize utility, the Savana cargo van kicks off at $43,695, climbing to $48,445 depending on configuration. And if you're after something more specialized, cutaway versions are still part of the lineup, though pricing remains under wraps. Think the Savana is outdated? Think again. This van may be a veteran, but it's still a workhorse that gets the job done.

Toyota’s Land Cruiser Series 70 has been kicking since 1984, and the Lada Niva off-roader goes even further back to 1977. GMC’s Savana may be old-school, but it’s got some solid company in the world of automotive survivors.
