Get Ready To Welcome The 2022 Aston Martin Valhalla Hybrid

Aston Martin is one of the last year automakers who decided to go with the trend towards electrification of their models. The Valhalla supercar was the start point to show a halo model for its new hybrid range and all-new fully electric versions. Scheduled to reach production in 2023 this concept will feature an Aston bespoke TM01 3.0-liter V6 hybridized engine.

Presented at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show as a two-seater hybrid, as Tobias Moers, CEO Aston, says that there will be some modifications since they partnered with Mercedes-Benz to switch with an AMG power unit. Despite the initial plans, now the best candidate to get under the Valhalla hood is the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, and there are still questions about the AMG 201bhp electric motors fitting the rear axle. Still, one thing is sure - the combustion element will be mid-mounted with the chance to hit the 1,000 bhp mark.

The goal is set at 2030 to electrify at least 90% of Aston Martins, and the first step is the new hybrid version of the DBX SUV. The same Valhalla tactic - with a more likely Mercedes-AMG, and the E53 is the favorite mild-hybrid to deliver 429 bhp and 384 lb-ft. Only this time, you get an electric drive motor that will boost the torque by 184 lb-ft. The DBX hybrid ensures under 5.0 seconds acceleration on a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) and a 150 mph top speed. Aston revealed that these electric models will have official 250 g/km emissions and its MPG boosted up to 20s.

“We plan on that in the DBX platform before 2024, but we have to adopt all the Mercedes technology transfers.  [...] That needs time. We are implementing technology faster than anything I have done before in my life, but it still takes time. So by 2023, we’re going to have PHEV with us.” said Moers.

The first battery-electric Aston car is expected on the market by 2025. With a four-wheel-drive electric SUV, a possible Mercedes new Modular Electric Architecture (MEA) platform, and a 100kWh battery could deliver almost the same performance as a V8. Described as a “front-engined version of the DB11/Vantage.” Also, Aston wants to bring to the market a performance-focused DBX S version aimed to be a Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

In 2023 Aston Martin will celebrate its 110th anniversary, so, everyone is eager to see what special editions will be released to mark the celebration. So far, the automaker is offering a limited-run of the new Vantage F1 Edition and DBS Superleggera Concorde Edition to maintain their customer love and enthusiast towards the sports cars market share and enthusiast appeal.
