Geely Says The Galaxy TT Doesn't Need A Huge Battery To Go 450 Miles

A big battery isn't always the answer. Geely believes the smarter approach is building a more efficient electric drivetrain, and that's exactly what it has done with the upcoming Galaxy TT. The company has now revealed the technology behind the sedan as it prepares to take on rivals like the Xiaomi SU7.
At the center of the car is Geely's new 16-in-1 Intelligent E-Drive, developed with drivetrain specialist InfiMotion.

Instead of spreading major components throughout the vehicle, the system combines the motor, motor controller, onboard charger, DC-to-DC converter, vehicle control unit, and battery management system into a single unit. Housed in lightweight magnesium, it weighs just 165 pounds. Geely says the design reaches 93.8 percent efficiency under the CLTC testing cycle.

That efficiency allows the Galaxy TT to rely on surprisingly modest battery packs. Buyers will have a choice of 52.4 kWh, 63.8 kWh, or 75.2 kWh batteries, all paired with an 800-volt electrical architecture. Even the largest pack is smaller than what many rivals offer, yet Geely claims the sedan can travel up to 450 miles on a charge.

The company has already put those claims to the test. During a drive around China's Qinghai Lake, the Galaxy TT averaged just 8.2 kWh per 62 miles, earning a Guinness World Record for the lowest energy consumption by a production electric sedan on the route. Performance hasn't been sacrificed either. The flagship dual-motor version produces up to 425 kW and reaches 62 mph in 3.8 seconds.

Geely says the drivetrain also benefits from AI-assisted torque management for quicker responses and smoother power delivery. A 54-channel cooling system helps reduce peak motor temperatures by up to 27°F during sustained hard driving. The same technology also helped the Galaxy TT secure another Guinness World Record after completing more than 28.6 miles of continuous tandem drifting on a wet surface, showing the system can deliver consistent performance as well as impressive efficiency.
