The Dark Horse R is similar to the original in many ways, but it has been upgraded with racing features to make it suitable for the track. Improved oil and gearbox cooling, a Borla racing exhaust system, a fuel cell, and a 5.0-liter V8 engine pump out more than 500 horsepower.

Tow hooks and 19-inch wheels shod with race tires are among the minor upgrades. The Ford Mustang Dark Horse R retains its manual six-speed gearbox and Brembo braking system. The magnificent racer also has Multimatic DSSV racing dampers, adjustable anti-roll bars, and adjustable front camber plates to improve its performance on the track.
