Fiat Just Brought Autobianchi Back After 30 Years — And the Timing May Not Be Accidental

Car brands often revive old names to tap into nostalgia. Fiat’s latest move may have a bigger reason behind it. Its little Pandina now has an Autobianchi edition, bringing back a name that disappeared 30 years ago. The timing is interesting, too: Italy has reportedly been looking at ways to take control of dormant car brands and potentially pass them to Chinese manufacturers willing to build cars locally.
That could explain why Stellantis is dusting off Autobianchi now. Under a new Italian law, the government can reportedly seize control of trademarks that haven’t been used for five straight years.

Officials had registered independent versions of the Autobianchi and Innocenti badges, reportedly with Chinese automakers in mind. Putting Autobianchi back on sale could reset that clock and help Stellantis keep control of the name. A little badge, potentially a big legal move.
As for the car itself, the Tributo Autobianchi is based on the Pandina Cross. It gets exclusive Platino paint, black skid plates, special badges, and 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Buyers can also order a black roof, black mirrors, and a black tailgate, a nod to the old Autobianchi Y10. It’s a tidy tribute to the small premium city car that helped pave the way for the Lancia Ypsilon.

The cabin gets light-sand microfiber seats with a square pattern, Autobianchi logos on the headrests, matching door trim, and a Platino dashboard finish. Even the screens get custom welcome graphics. But don’t expect any extra punch under the hood. The familiar 1.0-liter mild-hybrid engine still makes 69 hp, sends power to the front wheels, and comes with a six-speed manual. Looks fancier, goes just the same.
Fiat is taking orders in Italy, with prices starting at a discounted €15,400 (around $17,300). That deal expires at the end of the month.
