Ferrari SP-8 Unveiled: A Customized Roadster Dream Turned Reality by Special Projects Division

Ferrari has just pulled the curtain back on its latest masterpiece, a bespoke roadster named SP-8. Crafted by the acclaimed Special Projects Division, this vehicle may share its roots with the older Ferrari F8 Spider, but the resemblance ends there.

The SP-8 draws inspiration from other special edition Ferraris like the KC23 and has been customized to meet the particular desires of a Taiwanese client. The number 8 in the name pays homage to its significance as a lucky number in Chinese culture.

Designed as a full-fledged roadster, the SP-8 has undergone extensive CFD analyses and aerodynamic simulations to meet the client's request for a roofless design.

While it's primarily built to be a showpiece, Ferrari assures that the SP-8 has been rigorously track-tested to ensure that wind noise remains minimal, even at high speeds.

Body and Exterior

The bodywork features dark carbon fiber elements finished in a glossy, iridescent Blue Sandstone, providing a stunning contrast with the Argento Micalizzato matte paint. Though we can't see it here, the Blu Scuro Stellato paint is said to elegantly link the two sections of the bodywork.

With no need for a retractable hardtop, the car's rear has been redesigned to incorporate taillights borrowed from the Roma model, enhanced with special lenses. A vented decklid adds to the allure, but the car's true beauty lies in its overall design.

Mechanical Details

The side intakes have been revamped and now appear in a matte black finish, complete with separate ducts for the intercoolers. Additional vents have been seamlessly integrated to help dissipate heat from the engine, a feature complemented by the matte Grigio NART wheels that also serve to extract heat from the brakes.

Ferrari SP-8

Frontal Features

The front grille is a marvel, crafted from a single 3D-printed aluminum mold and mimicking the straked theme found at the rear. Newly-designed headlights, exclusive exhaust tips, and a specialized windscreen round out the exterior's standout features.

Ferrari SP-8

Interior Comfort

Inside, the central console features a redesigned shift gate—though unfortunately, no close-up images are available. The seats are laser-engraved and upholstered in Navy Blue Alcantara, accented by yellow contrast details. Floor mats are crafted in a specific twill fabric, boasting an iridescent effect.

Ferrari SP-8

Price and Future Projects

Though it was custom-built for a select client and the price tag remains undisclosed, it's safe to assume that the SP-8 carries a seven-figure cost.

Ferrari SP-8

As for what lies ahead, Ferrari has announced plans to unveil four new cars this year. With the SF90 XX twins, the unique KC23, and the Roma Spider already revealed, it's unclear whether the SP-8 is the final installment or if Special Projects will unveil more surprises.

What we can say for sure is that the Ferrari SP-8 is a remarkable addition to the brand's bespoke lineup, one that continues to push the boundaries of automotive artistry.
