Farewell To An Icon: Bugatti Presents The Last Chiron, L'Ultime

Bugatti has finally presented the last Chiron automobile. Finished by hand in Molsheim, this hypercar, appropriately dubbed L'Ultime, is the last to bear the name of the Monégasque driver Louis Chiron. The livery of the Chiron is based on that of the vehicle shown at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show; hence, the epilogue follows in the footsteps of the original car, in this case the Super Sport.

Certain photographs in the company's official portfolio truly inspired the 500th Bugatti. Eventually, the distinctive blue of the Atlantic Ocean will replace the French racing blue. In the eight years following the vehicle's inception, there are also handwritten names of significant events and locations.

Several inscriptions embellish the last flourish: Ehra-Lessien (where it reached 304 mph), Paul Ricard (where it was tested), Geneva (where it made its debut), and Chantilly (where it was often shown). Bugatti also noted these locations to further indicate that some clients might experience the Chiron's maximum speed at Château Saint Jean and Cape Canaveral. Bugatti has hand-written "500" on the underside of the rear wing and the wheel caps to emphasize the point.

The engine cover houses the monstrous quad-turbo 8.0-liter W-16 engine, positioned in front of the back wheels. Even Bugatti is mum about who owns the special edition. We believe an American may be the one judging the orange side markers. While this may be the last vehicle to bear the Chiron badge, it certainly isn't the last chapter in the Chiron story.

Building on the Chiron platform, Bugatti continues to produce the 99-unit Mistral roadster and the 40-unit Bolide, with the latter reserved for use on racetracks. Featuring a naturally aspirated V-16 engine, the company's brand new vehicle will make its debut in June.
