Even Though It's Over 40 Years Old, Toyota's Land Cruiser 70 Will Continue Production

The SUV, which first hit the market in 1984, will soon be celebrating its 40th anniversary, and it is expected to continue selling in the coming years. Australia's Vice President of Sales and Marketing disclosed the information. Sean Hanley told CarSales that there is no deviation from their product strategy for the 70 Series.

Some have even proposed equipping the classic SUV with a hybrid engine. There have been reports of a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain replacing the existing Land Cruiser 70's 4.5-liter turbodiesel V8.

Customers would be OK with a smaller powerplant, according to Hanley. In light of the company's efforts to reduce its environmental impact, he continued by saying that a switch to hybrid power is realistically achievable.

"In a generation of any car we change engines, that can happen. The key to anything that Toyota does, and first and foremost in our thinking is fit for purpose in the market you operate in while still getting to that carbon-neutral position because that's now high on the agenda."

Meanwhile, the carmaker has temporarily halted processing new orders in Australia because of high demand, despite the fact that the 2023 model year has come with a $1,600 price increase.
