Electrified Ineos Fusilier Marks The Beginning Of A New Era For Off-Roading

Ineos just showed off its first all-electric vehicle, the Fusilier, proving that it's not solely focused on vehicles with internal combustion engines. The company will let customers get a gas engine in their new off-roader if they want one to extend the vehicle’s range beyond what's possible with batteries alone.

Here's an interesting fact. The Fusilier is smaller than the Grenadier—Ineos' first planned model—and runs exclusively on electric power!

However, owners can bolt in a small gasoline engine to recharge the batteries if there aren't any charging stations around. According to Ineos, the Audi RS Q e-tron's recent victory at Dakar has already demonstrated this technological solution.

Chairman of Ineos, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, said balancing different types of powertrains is necessary to cut emissions without giving up driving enjoyment. And providing customers with an alternative powertrain for the Fusilier will help whittle down emissions while still offering them all-important range and refueling options.

Similar to the Genadier, Magna has assisted in the development of the Fusilier. Of course, like many off-road vehicles, these two will share some components: They'll use front and rear motors from Magna, along with other bits such as suspension and brakes.

Built atop its so-called “bespoke skateboard platform,” the Ineos Fusilier has a sturdy steel body but wears lightweight aluminum doors. Its range will be about 249 miles when fitted with purely electric propulsion, though we don’t yet know how much power or torque it’ll make or even how large its battery pack will be. The manufacturer said last year that its electric off-roader would be available for purchase in 2026.
