Electric Cupra Is Similar To The VW ID.3! What If We Add Some Latin Spirit To It!

Now that all the details have been revealed, very soon, Cupra will make its first electric vehicle available on the market. Known as Born, the EV hatchback that’s built on the same Volkswagen Group MEB platform could be received as a tweaked ID.3, but with a much more dynamic and aggressive look.

Almost identical to the 2020’s El-Born concept the hatchback has a sportier, sloping hood, and even angular headlights. The rear end features a horizontal light bar connecting the EV’s triangular taillights, sporting a supercar-style diffuser slung beneath the rear bumper. Meanwhile, the interior features a digital instrument pod with its own graphics, a traditional rectangular standard 12-inch infotainment system, and the dashboard and reprofiled door panels.

The Born EV will carry a small 45 kWh battery with a 211miles (340 km) WLTP driving range and has an output of 148 horsepower output and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in just 8.9 seconds. You can opt for the 58-kWh battery and its 201 horsepower and the extra 49 miles and an acceleration dropped down by 1.6 seconds.

There’s even a 228-horsepower e-boost motor option with the same 58 kWh battery pack and a 6.6 seconds acceleration for the 62 miles distance. The e-boost is nothing else than a push-to-pass button placed on the steering wheel. The 228 hp e-boost motor can be combined with a bigger 77 kWh battery. Delivering a total range of 335 miles of WLTP range but you’ll get a 62 mph (100 km/h) time around 7 seconds. Here’s the trick – the bigger the battery, the faster the charging rate.

No prices were yet announced for the Cupra Born, but the model is expected for left-hand drive production in September, but we know that it’ll be available on the European and Aussie markets near 2022. No confirmations for the North American or the Canadian markets so far.
