Dongfeng Warrior M50: A Civilian Version Of Dongfeng Mengshi EQ2050 Military Truck

The first Humvee military truck was introduced in 1984, and the consumer variant was made in a total of 11,818 vehicles between 1992 and 2006. Even though it has been several years after its collapse, you may be astonished to learn that a distant cousin of the Hummer has recently begun construction in China.

Dongfeng Warrior M50 is the long-awaited new variant of the Dongfeng Mengshi EQ2050 military truck, which is inspired by Humvee.

It all began in the 1990s when state-owned Dongfeng reverse-engineered the Humvee to produce vehicles for the Chinese military. The company worked out a deal with AM General to source parts for their own version of the Hummer, but it eventually managed to construct everything in-house.

Now in 2021, the corporation launched the brand new Dongfeng Warrior M50, after numerous consumer versions of the Mengshi were found driving in China, most likely bought through under-the-table agreements because it is not officially on sale.

The Chinese Dongfeng Warrior M50 is built on a body-on-frame platform with massive all-terrain tires and angular bodywork that harkens back to the original. The new design, which includes Dongfeng's grille and recessed round headlamps, tries to set it apart from its American counterpart, but the general shape is readily recognized.

The two-seater interior has the same ultra-wide center tunnel as all Hummers, but that's where the similarities end. On the center console of the dashboard, there is an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen that is angled towards the driver. It looks more like a sophisticated SUV with silver trim on the current instrument cluster, circular temperature vents, and a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel. Dongfeng Warrior M50 is offered in two body styles: bare-chassis and pickup, but we wouldn't be shocked if a roomier wagon body style followed.

Due to its enormous weight and the peculiarities of this vintage body-on-frame chassis, the road manners of this beast are nowhere near to contemporary standards of comfort and driving performance. A turbodiesel Cummings 4.0-liter engine produces 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque under the hood.

A six-speed manual transmission sends power to all four wheels and includes all of the extras you'll need to overcome any type of challenging terrain. The almost non-existent overhangs allow for a 70-degree approach angle and a 45-degree departure angle, as well as a massive 16.1-inch ground clearance (409 mm).

According to Car News China and The Drive, Dongfeng Warrior M50 is now available for order, with costs starting at ¥668,800 (about $103,529). This pickup isn't cheap, but it comes with military technology, off-road credentials, bragging rights, and an unequaled on-road appearance.
