Dodge's high-performance vehicles have proven to be a target for thieves, and the manufacturer is responding with a slew of new safety features.

Owners of 2021 Challengers and Chargers with supercharged 6.2- and normally aspirated 6.4-liter V8 motors may obtain a free “flash software upgrade” that adds an Enhanced Security Valet Mode at their local Dodge dealership beginning today.

In the Enhanced Security Valet Mode, the automobile output is limited to about 2.8 hp (2.1 kW / 2.8 hp) and 22 lb-ft (30 Nm) until the right four-digit code has been entered into the infotainment system. Although your automobile will not be robbed necessarily, the criminals will go slowly unless you have a trailer.

Soon, Dodge will provide a key programming lock-down that will stop thieves from duplicating your fob while enabling your keys to function properly.

The function costs $159, but the firm has recognized that it does not produce new keys if dealerships don't initiate the procedure from the beginning. The carmaker is aware that this might "be a hassle" so that clients can have two more keys at a reduced cost when the Key Programming lockdown is carried out.

The lock-down of the key programming is scheduled for October and is originally offered for the 2020 and 2021 versions. Dodge nevertheless intends to support another model year every 6 weeks, so that the functionality finally covers all chargers and challengers in 2015 and beyond. Dodge also stated that the Durango is finally being offered.

A new "Intrusion Module" will be available to the 2022 Challenger and Charger. It has a tilt sensor that detects inside motion as well as a shattered window. When this happens, the alarm turns on and ideally will frighten people.
