Despite Audi's Foray Into All-Electric Era, The Singleframe Grille Will Remain

As hybrid cars get more widespread, some carmakers are opting for body-colored panels instead of standard front grilles. Audi, on the other hand, stated in a recent group meeting that its EVs will have grilles identical to its ICE versions, albeit they may be blanked out for enhanced aerodynamics.

Cars have historically needed front grilles to keep their engines and radiators cooled. While grilles aren't as vital for electric vehicles because they don't have an internal combustion engine, they can still be useful in giving cars a distinct look.

Audi's design team told Motor Trend that the grilles on its electric vehicles will help differentiate them from their competition. These grilles will also appear on the brand's next trio of 'Sphere' electric car prototypes, which will incorporate superior self-driving technology.

Earlier this month, the German manufacturer revealed its three ‘Sphere' prototypes. The Sky Sphere, a stylish two-door coupe, the Grand Sphere four-door sedan, and the Urban Sphere, which is shaped like a giant SUV, are among them.

Audi's single-frame grille debuted on the 2004 A8 and has since been seen on every Audi model. The single-frame is a solid element running from the bonnet to the base of the bumper, unlike many other vehicle grilles that are divided into upper and lower pieces.
