Dacia Duster's Electric Shift: Embracing Hybrid Now, Full Electric in the 2030s

Dacia is stirring the pot in the automotive world with its plans for the beloved Duster. While the full electric version might be a bit down the road, arriving in the 2030s, Dacia isn't sitting idle. They're kicking things off with hybrid powertrains in the next iteration of the Duster.

So, what's the scoop? Well, Dacia CEO Denis Le Vot played it cool when asked about the exact timeline for the Duster's electric makeover, simply saying, “I don’t know.” But it's clear that Dacia is taking its time to get it right, with the new Duster likely to grace the roads for the next eight years or so.

The plan is to stick mostly with internal combustion engines (ICE) until around 2032. Le Vot explained that this strategy aligns with Dacia's role as the Renault Group's “life jacket” in these uncertain times. But don't think they're ignoring the electric wave! Dacia is fully aware of where the industry is heading and is gradually shifting gears.

First up, they're trimming carbon emissions with LPG options – 10% less carbon – and then stepping up to full hybrids when market demand calls for it. Dacia's approach is about balance, not racing headlong into electrification.

But let's not forget that Dacia's journey doesn't end with hybrids. As Le Vot mentioned, the eventual goal is to go fully electric. The timing will depend on various factors, including individual model cycles (like the Sandero due for a makeover around 2028) and international market demands.

Here's the cool part: Dacia is looking at a dual offer in the future – an electric version alongside an ICE version. That means more choices for us! And with Dacia's global footprint, spanning from Turkey to Latin America and India, this strategy makes a lot of sense.

So, while we might have to wait a bit for a fully electric Duster, Dacia's hybrid move is a solid step towards a greener, more sustainable future. It's all about taking the right steps at the right time. Stay tuned, folks – Dacia's electric journey is just getting started!
