Cupra And Seat Plan To Discontinue Their Model-Sharing Program

Following the popularity of the Cupra-only Formentor, the UK leader of Seat and Cupra has stated that the two companies will continue to offer brand-specific vehicles.

However, Seat will not produce the all-new electric Cupra Born or the planned Tavascan big SUV. The fate of the Urban Rebel, a modest ID Life-based project, is still up in the air. The small electric car may be badged as a Seat because of its cheaper price.

“The basic answer to that is yes,” said UK head Richard Harrison when asked if a straightforward proposal of a brand-specific model helped purchasers. The Cupra Formentor is a Cupra exclusively, as evidenced by its name. I believe that having more particular products in the future will help distinguish the brands more clearly.

"The choice around Born was based on the positioning of the brands," Harrison said, adding that Seat and Cupra will try to diversify their pricing. Seat is more on the budget side of the market, whereas Cupra is more in the middle. 

Seat has a year-to-date market share of 2,9 %, and Cupra is getting ready to debut the Born with both an agency and subscription sales model, so the timing couldn't be better.

As a way to differentiate itself from the Cupra brand, Seat is now selling an e-scooter moped in the UK. In addition, the e-kicks scooter could be launched in the United Kingdom, although it would primarily depend on whether or not regulation permits electric scooters to be used. The government is now testing these in several cities.
