Could This Really Be The New 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe (G42)?

This single image of the coupe designated G42 that emerged online today is another leak from numerous BMW 2 Series leaks that began in April 2020, when someone took photos of a pre-production car in an elevator.

Its validity still has not been proven, and people on social media ask whether it's a picture, but except for the grille slots that appear a bit out of place because the images have been scanned from a video, it looks real, and matches previously seen images.

In any case, we will know for sure in several days since on July 8th at the Goodwood Festival of Speed the BMW has officially announced its debut of the compact sports model. Details about the standard two-series Coupe range are released by Germans. The range is anticipated to include three, four, and six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines in Europe and perhaps the reintroduction of diesel engines.

The basic 230i in North America will continue to use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine common with some other BMW models, delivering about 255-hp and 295 lb-ft of peak torque. It will be offered in RWD at first, with the all-wheel-drive 230i xDrive joining the lineup later.

For the time being, the 2022 M240i xDrive will be at the top of the range in all markets, with a TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine producing 382-hp, a 47-hp boost over its predecessor. In Europe, that number is reduced to 368-hp / 275kW / 374 PS.

In the first version, the power is transmitted, via a standardized 8-speed Sport Steptronic automatic gearbox with an M sports rear differential, to the rear-biased BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system. BMW also announced that the M240i version of the RWD will be produced. It is unknown if any model has a manual option.

This autumn is planned for sale with the new 2 Series Coupe followed by the full-fat M2 powered next year by a little detached version of the 3.0-liter straight-six S58 M3 with turbocharged S58, delivering a minimum of 420-hp.
