Corvette ZR1X vs Mustang GTD: Who Owns The Nürburgring Now?
by AutoExpert | 5 August, 2025
Back in December, the Ford Mustang GTD made waves with a 6:57.685 Nürburgring lap. A few months later, it shaved that down to 6:52.07. Impressive—until Chevy came back swinging with the Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X, claiming the new crown.
Ford’s response? Just two words from CEO Jim Farley: “Game on.” He dropped the comment directly on Corvette’s Instagram, congratulating the team while clearly signaling that the battle isn’t over.

Ford might take another shot at the ‘Ring, but the Mustang GTD has its work cut out. It tips the scales at over 4,300 pounds, according to EPA figures, while the Corvette ZR1 comes in nearly 500 pounds lighter. Chevy hasn’t shared the ZR1X’s weight, but it’s expected to sit somewhere between the two.
Then there’s the power gap. The GTD packs 815 horsepower, but the ZR1 punches out 1,064 hp, and the ZR1X takes it all the way to 1,250 hp. Numbers aren’t everything, though.
The Mustang GTD brings serious hardware to the fight, including trick aero with an F1-style drag-reduction system, wide Cup 2 R tires, and a highly advanced suspension setup. So, will Ford try to take the title back? Farley sure sounds ready. We’ll be watching.
