Next-Gen Citroën C4 To Channel The Eccentricity Of The Oli

The funny Citroën Oli concept from 2022, which introduced a bold new design language for the brand, might not remain just a showpiece. Reports suggest that the next-generation Citroën C4, already in development, will borrow heavily from the concept's eccentric looks—though with some toned-down elements for practicality.

The upcoming Citroën C4 is expected to utilize the Smart Car architecture, which supports both electric and internal combustion engine powertrains.

Citroën would be able to maintain a wide range of options, similar to the current model based on the CMP/e-CMP platform. Crucially, this approach could keep costs competitive, potentially making the C4 one of the most affordable options in its class.

Initially, the Oli concept aimed to inspire a production vehicle that Slovakia would manufacture alongside a Peugeot counterpart. However, 2021 shelved those plans. In 2023, new CEO Thierry Koskas revived the project as part of a broader strategy to reposition Citroën as a budget-friendly brand with a fresh edge.

While there’s talk of the next-gen Citroën C4 launching in 2027, this timeline feels ambitious, considering the facelifted version of the current C4 is hitting dealerships by early 2025. French media speculate that Stellantis could cut costs further by building the new C4 in Morocco.
