Citroen has unveiled a new special edition of its flagship C5 X model, based on the top trim level and featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Citroen C5 X Hypnos takes its name from the Greek god of sleep, but don't let that fool you; its aim is not to make you sleepy but to provide a relaxing and serene driving experience with its comfortable cabin.

The standout feature of the exterior is the Eclipse Blue paint, which changes its character depending on lighting conditions. This unique color is complemented by Infrared accents on the decorative side gills and the C5 X emblem on the tailgate. The 19-inch AeroX alloy wheels sport an Onyx Black finish, while the roof follows a dark theme. For those who prefer a different hue, there's the option of Platinum Grey.

Inside, you'll find light-colored perforated leather upholstery, grey Alcantara headrests, and Infrared labels with Hypnos lettering. These features are combined with Karuun faux wood inserts on the dashboard and doors, a special treatment for the glossy black center console with xenon bronze lines, and Hypnos-branded floor mats.

The signature plush seats come with heating, massaging, and ventilation functions, and the car also includes a glass roof and a hi-fi audio system as standard.

The special edition C5 X Hypnos exclusively comes with the 225 ë-EAT8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, which consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and a single electric motor, delivering a combined output of 222 hp (165 kW / 225 PS). Power is sent to the front axle through an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the 12.4 kWh battery provides an EV-only range of 50 km (31 miles). Most importantly, the Hypnos features the Advanced Comfort active suspension, which offers Citroen's version of the Rolls-Royce Magic Carpet Ride.

In an effort to dispel any jokes or safety concerns associated with the car's name, Citroen emphasizes that driving the C5 X Hypnos is "a real invitation to relax and unwind, while remaining fully aware of your surroundings." They hope that both drivers and passengers will "restore energy" during each journey with this comfort-focused flagship model. It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Citroen has used the Hypnos name, as it was previously introduced in a hybrid crossover concept in 2008.

Citroen C5 X Hypnos Special Edition

The Citroen C5 X Hypnos is now available for order in Europe, starting from September 4. This special edition is priced at €58,400 ($63,047) in France, making it one of the more premium offerings from the typically budget-oriented Stellantis brand. Availability will be limited, with the first customer deliveries expected in early 2024.
