The engineer and American businessman Walter Percy Chrysler, in 1924 founded the company that bears his name, as well as the brand of the cars. The company has appeared as a result of the Maxwell Motor reorganization, also in the same year it was built and the first Chrysler car with a 6-cylinder engine.

The purchasing of the Dodge Company, in 1928, which proved to be particularly successful, drove Chrysler to the top of the US car market. In the same year were launched the Plymouth and DeSoto brands.
