Canoo's Electric Vans Secure A Spot In USPS's Mail Fleet

Canoo is making waves in government collaboration. Let us explain. Canoo has now secured a deal with the United States Postal Service (USPS) for six right-hand-drive versions of its Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle 190 after collaborating with NASA, the Oklahoma state government, and even undergoing US Army evaluation.

This extended electric van features an enclosed rear cargo hold, providing around 200 miles of range with a 79.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack and DC fast charging capabilities.

While the USPS's broader $40 billion investment in fleet upgrades includes mail trucks from Oshkosh Defense, the Canoo vans add an electric touch to the mix. The LDV 190, boasting up to 350 horsepower on certain specs, offers a versatile solution for the USPS, with a cargo hold capacity of 172.0 cubic feet and the ability to carry up to 1,624 pounds of mail.

The six electric vans are scheduled for delivery early this year, and Canoo's ability to easily convert these vehicles to right-hand drives is in line with USPS's purpose. It's worth mentioning that there may even be a move toward more government-backed startup electric vans based on the USPS's investigation of commercial electric delivery vehicles.
