BMW Goes Green: All German Diesel Models To Use Cleaner HVO 100 Fuel By 2025

Starting January 2025, BMW will fuel all diesel models made in Germany with HVO 100, a cleaner diesel alternative made from hydrogenated vegetable oils. It’s part of BMW’s push to cut CO2 emissions and adopt greener solutions.
HVO 100, developed with Finnish company Nest, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over its life cycle. It’s made from waste products like used cooking oil, with no palm oil involved, making it an eco-friendlier option.
BMW has already been using HVO 100 at its factories in Munich, Dingolfing, Regensburg, and Leipzig, which produce over half of the company’s diesel vehicles. Right off the assembly line, BMW fills each car with 5-8 liters of the fuel. They’re also using it in logistics trucks that supply their plants.
The benefits go beyond emissions—HVO 100 performs better in cold starts and is less prone to microbial contamination due to its purity. Drivers in Germany can even find it at select gas stations, where it’s been available since May 2024.
This switch is a step toward making BMW’s cars and operations more sustainable without compromising performance or convenience.
