Audi formed a partnership with Verizon to provide a 5G connection to its U.S. range shortly, beginning with the 2024MY automobiles. The company intends to be an early supporter of ultra-wideband telecommunications networks in its cars.

Tami Erwin, CEO of Verizon Business, stated: "Audi drivers will be among the world's first to experience a new generation of automobiles, one in which their car is both a 5G mobile device and a vehicle." He added: "We’re proud to bring the best 5G networking expertise in the world to a visionary partner like Audi, whose premium automotive engineering deserves second-to-none 5G technology to match."

There are several in-car connected services that rely on this technology. Passengers may download or stream content at quicker speeds, and automobiles can receive software updates over the air, while the navigation system can be upgraded with HD/3D maps and video services via the internet. As a result, cloud-based user profiles, digital retail, and cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) tech will all be best managed by the infotainment system as a result.

Audi

Audi already has a few C-V2X features in its North American lineup, like information on traffic lights and construction zones. However, it claims that with 5G, the technology can be further developed to allow vehicles to react to other vehicles and infrastructure to offer low-latency information about the road surrounding them.

Audi of America's senior VP, Product Planning, Filip Brabec, said: "Audi was the first automaker to bring in-vehicle Wi-Fi to customers as well as 4G LTE connectivity in the 2015 A3, and we will be among the first to bring the next generation of connectivity to our customers in the U.S."

Audi

Audi stated that starting with the model year 2024 cars, it will begin offering 5G connectivity and related services, without specifying a launch date.
