Audi Joins The Off-Road Trend With The Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar

Audi is diving into off-road territory with the Q8 e-tron Edition Dakar, priced at approximately €120,000 in Germany. Drawing inspiration from its rallying roots, this SUV, based on the twin-motor 55 non-Sportback e-tron, packs a punch with 402 hp in boost mode, allowing it to hit 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds on standard tires.

Opting for the General Grabber AT3 all-terrain rubber slightly extends the sprint to 5.9 seconds, gearing the Audi Q8 E-Tron Edition Dakar for rugged off-road adventures.

Despite a reduced range of 303 miles with off-road tires, the Edition Dakar gains an extra 31 mm (1.2 inches) of ground clearance, starting at 206 mm (8.1 inches). Improved approach, departure, and breakover angles contribute to its 'light' off-road proficiency, though it falls short of more specialized rock-crawling rivals.

The Edition Dakar's modest 300 mm (12 inches) wading depth limits its aquatic ambitions, but it compensates with a distinctive appearance, featuring a wider track and a standard roof rack.

The optional graphics package, limited to 99 cars, adds an extra layer of exclusivity. Audi positions the Dakar edition as a precursor to a more robust off-road SUV, hinting at a vehicle that could rival formidable competitors like the upcoming electric Land Rover Defender.
