Aston Martin has done it again, unveiling the DB12 Volante, a convertible variant of the successful hardtop DB12. Powered by a V8 Mercedes-AMG engine, this elegant convertible is poised for its global debut at The Quail as part of Monterey Car Week in California.

Known for crafting exquisite convertibles, Aston Martin's latest creation is scheduled to step into production in the third quarter of 2023, with the first deliveries expected in the fourth quarter.

Under the hood, the DB12 Volante runs on an AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, producing a whopping 671 HP (500 kW/680 HP) and 590 lb-ft of torque. This power is channeled through an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and an electronic rear differential to the rear axle.

The convertible GT can achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.7 seconds, trailing its coupe counterpart by a mere 0.1 seconds, and reaching the same top speed of 325 km/h as the DB12 Coupe.

Looking to the future, enthusiasts can anticipate a plug-in hybrid variant that will likely boost power and performance beyond the non-electrified V8.

Open-air driving lovers will appreciate Aston Martin's continuation of the hallmark fabric reclining roof. Interestingly, the convertible showcases more attractive proportions than the coupe when the roof is stored, revealing the stunning materials of the cabin and emphasizing its attractive tail.

The electrically-operated roof opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16 seconds, folding in a two-step pattern, and can operate at speeds up to 50 km/h. Its design ensures minimal impact on cargo capacity.

Roof color customization is available, with shades including red, blue, and "black and silver," offering endless combination possibilities with exterior and interior upholstery.

Inside, the DB12 Volante features Aston Martin’s next-gen infotainment system, built in-house and paired with a Bowers & Wilkins audio system. Wood veneer and carbon fiber panels, matching the door trim inlay, enhance the seatbacks, giving a touch of luxury unavailable in the Coupe version.

Further customization is possible through the Q by Aston Martin division, for an additional charge.

Compared to the DB11, the DB12 forgoes the V12 option but gains a facelift, an overhauled interior, and new technology. Key highlights include:

  1. DB12's utilization of an upgraded version of DB’s bonded aluminum structure.
  2. Enlistment as "class-leading performance and handling."
  3. Convertible-specific dampers setup.
  4. 21-inch forged alloy wheels with bespoke Michelin Pilot S 5 tires, and standard cast-iron discs that can be upgraded to carbon ceramic brakes.
