Apple's iPhone Partner Foxconn Reveals 3 Electrified Vehicles

Apple's assembler and partner, Foxconn Technology Group, presented three electric vehicles at the same time in Taipei at Technology Day. The Taiwanese were heavily influenced by Tesla, as evidenced by the names of the EVs.

As a result, Foxconn reveals the Model C SUV, the Model E sedan, and the Model T bus. Foxtron, a joint venture between Foxconn and Taiwanese carmaker Yulon Motor, developed and manufactured all-electric vehicles. They employ a universal platform, which will be used by other EVs created by the company in the future.

Foxconn, or Hon Hai Precision Industry, declared its desire to join a new automotive sector in 2019 and debuted the MIH modular architecture a year later. This enables the development of electric vehicles of various classes with wheelbases ranging from 2,750 to 3,100 mm and powered by one or two electric motors (up to 272 hp on the front axle and up to 462 hp on the rear axle). The chassis supports rear or all-wheel drive and batteries with capacities up to 116 kWh.

The MIH design is also expected to be adopted by Foxconn's partner, Apple, which is expected to introduce its automobile by 2024. Foxconn is now the primary iPhone assembler.

The business presented three electric vehicles at the same time. The Model C, a mid-size SUV with two motors producing 408 hp and 700 Nm of torque, was the first to hit the stage. Under these conditions, the EV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 secs and has a battery range of up to 700 km. The model will go on sale in Taiwan in 2023, with the base version costing 1 million Taiwanese dollars.

The Model E is the quickest of the three electric automobiles on display. Its design was created in collaboration with the Italian firm Pininfarina, and it measures 5,100 mm in length and 3,100 mm in width, with a 748 hp powerplant. The 0-100 km/h sprint here takes 2.8 secs, which is comparable to the Porsche 911 and McLaren 765LT Spider. The claimed range is 750 km.

The Model T electric bus, first revealed in 2020, will be able to drive up to 400 km on a single battery charge. Foxconn has not provided any other information about it, other than the fact that it would be operational in southern Taiwan as early as 2022.
