If you ever want to go retro-style but still aim for the perfect car for today's changing trends. Watch out for this two-seat concept designed powered enough to carry on the 4C engine. Get ready, because Alfa Romeo is giving you the modern reinterpretation of the 1960s Abarth 1000 SP race car.

The Abarth 1000 SP also promoted as a Sport Prototipo is another great one-off homage to the car that debuted half a century ago and became famous by offering a glorious victory at the Nürburgring 500km in 1966. Designed to compete in two categories - endurance races and Hillclimb -  it had success in many other motorsport disciplines.

The new concept features a mid-sized sports car form much larger than the original bringing several nods to the original design. You’ll notice the lightness, agility, and aerodynamic efficiency used for this homage design aimed to bring all the original car’s spirit back on the roads.

This time the Abarth retro-styled version is constructed around a carbon fiber and aluminum chassis, overlapping triangle suspension with MacPherson struts in the rear. It is still powered by the same 240bhp turbocharged 1.7-liter four-cylinder engine that featured in the Alfa Romeo 4C roadster back in the days. This is not the engine that can be worn off of a true Abarth fan.

Echoing lines and aesthetic characteristics of its “forerunner, the sinuous body brings along featured soft surfaces of the fenders, better positioning of the wheels, following the pattern of the spider with the same central engine. “The cockpit glazing features shaped side deflectors, with their profile lowered towards the roll bar, the latter strictly 'in view' to highlight our being in the presence of a no-holds-barred spider.”

If you want to see the energy bursting out of the 1,000 SP will on any race track, Alfa Romeo confirmed already that the prototype will appear at some undisclosed events focusing on vintage cars this autumn. Let’s hope everything goes according to the plan.
