The wait wasn't too long. Just three years after the original Ioniq 5 debuted, Hyundai revealed a revamped version in Korea. The all-electric car has undergone cosmetic and functional upgrades, including a larger battery pack and a new sporty N-Line trim level.

The upgraded Hyundai Ioniq 5 manages to maintain its distinctive appearance. Take, for instance, the front air intake, which is now broader and less complicated than before, and the cleaner back fascia, which gets the same treatment.

The package also includes a rear wiper, a bigger rear spoiler that has grown by 50 mm (2 inches), and new aerodynamic alloy wheels. To sum up, the updated EV is 20 mm (0.8 in) longer than the outgoing model, reaching 4,655 mm (183.3 in) in length.

A wide array of N Line emblems decorate the version-specific bodykit of the brand's newest offering, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line. The Ioniq 5 N served as inspiration for the front bumper's light-colored flaps, and the rear bumper follows suit. Fenders painted the same color as the body, modified side skirts, and brand new 20-inch alloy wheels complete the upgrade.

A redesigned steering wheel, sport seats, metal pedals, dashboard highlights, red stitching, and additional N Line insignia are some of the distinctive interior features of this model. A new physical button on the center console allows users to access options like heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, parking help, and more. Meanwhile, the back seats can be folded remotely, there is a built-in dashcam, and the safety equipment has been upgraded.

Along with the vertically arranged cupholders, the wireless charging pad has been moved up to a higher location, the air conditioning and infotainment controls have been reworked to make them easier to use, and then there are interactive pixel lights on the steering wheel.

The connected car navigation cockpit is the name of Hyundai's next-gen infotainment system, and it can get software upgrades wirelessly over the air. To be honest, these are all great additions.

A bigger 84 kWh battery pack, taken from the top-of-the-line Ioniq 5 N, replaces the older model's 77.4 kWh unit, enhancing the refreshed Ioniq 5's range. The increase in battery capacity has a positive impact on the electric range, even though Hyundai hasn't released official numbers. As a reminder, the current Ioniq 5 with the 77.4 kWh battery pack can go up to 303 miles according to the EPA, or up to 315 miles according to the WLTP.

Apart from the Ioniq 5 N, which produces 641 hp, the carmaker made no mention of any modifications to the single- and dual-motor electric powertrains, which in the current model year generate between 168 hp and 321 hp.

As for the chassis configuration, Hyundai made adjustments to the shock absorbers to make the ride more comfortable and stiffened the cowl crossbar to dampen wheel vibrations. Along with double the reinforcements at the underbody and back wheels, they stiffened the body and made the rear-mounted powertrain more soundproof.

Lastly, the second-row side airbags and strengthening on the doors and B-pillars are supposed to enhance side impact protection. Therefore, the updated Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be safer, have higher NVH credentials, and provide a more polished ride than the previous generation.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 will first be sold in Korea in March 2024. Later this year, it will be sold in other countries around the world as well.
