Volkswagen's New ID. Polo Starts Under €25,000 And Already Has 25,000 Orders

The race to build an affordable electric car has become more competitive than ever in Europe. Volkswagen hopes the new ID. Polo has the right formula to attract first-time EV buyers while taking on a growing list of Chinese competitors.

Now on sale in Germany, the 2027 ID. Polo starts at €24,995 for the base Trend trim, keeping Volkswagen's promise of offering an EV below the €25,000 mark.

Even the entry-level version comes well equipped, featuring blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, Emergency Assist, a 10-inch Digital Cockpit with classic Mk.1 Golf-inspired graphics, a 13-inch infotainment display, automatic climate control, and plenty of physical buttons.

Power comes from a single electric motor producing 114 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 37-kWh battery. The pack supports DC fast charging at up to 90 kW, allowing a 10–80 percent recharge in around 23 minutes. Volkswagen quotes up to 207 miles of combined driving range, while city driving can stretch that figure to 285 miles.

Buyers looking for more range can step up to the Life or Style trims, which feature a 52-kWh battery and 133 hp, extending the range to around 280 miles on the combined cycle or up to 370 miles in urban driving. A 208-hp version is also available for those willing to spend more than €30,000.

The 2027 ID. Polo is already proving popular in its home market. Volkswagen says it has received more than 25,000 orders just weeks after reservations opened, an encouraging sign after the company's recent struggles in the EV segment. With the recently unveiled ID. Cross set to follow, the ID. Polo could mark the beginning of a much stronger chapter for Volkswagen's electric lineup.
