Mercedes Just Improved the Marco Polo Without Reinventing It

What actually makes a camper van better? It's not always a bigger kitchen or a completely new interior. Sometimes a few smart upgrades are all it takes, and that's exactly the approach Mercedes-Benz took with the refreshed Marco Polo.
To start with, the highlight is the redesigned pop-up roof. Thanks to a new double-skinned aluminum construction, the rear section now offers an extra 3.9 inches of headroom, making the sleeping area feel noticeably more spacious.

Mercedes also added optional LED ambient lighting and a new panoramic roof opening, so campers can look up at the stars without stepping outside. Even the awning got some attention. It can now be removed between trips, giving the Marco Polo a cleaner look.

Step inside, and you'll find the same attention to detail. Magnetic curtains are quicker to put up and take down, while a new eight-speaker sound system with a subwoofer can keep the music playing over Bluetooth even after the infotainment screen is switched off.

Mercedes also improved the Advanced Control system, made the drawer slides smoother, redesigned the folding tables and bench seat controls, and upgraded the 40-liter cool box, which now uses 25% less energy. The kitchenette with two gas burners and a sink, rotating front seats, and the fold-out rear bed all carry over.

However, nothing changes under the hood. The Marco Polo still comes with a choice of three four-cylinder diesel engines producing 161 hp, 187 hp, or 234 hp. Every version pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission, while rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive remain available. Orders open in Europe on August 5, with pricing expected to stay close to the current starting price of €80,664 ($91,737) in Germany.
