Earlier this year, Mercedes-AMG introduced the refreshed GLE 53, and now they're expanding their lineup with an exciting addition: the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid. This model will be available in both the traditional crossover and the sporty crossover coupe versions.

Under the hood, the GLE 53 Hybrid boasts a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It combines a 31.2 kWh battery pack with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 443 hp and a 134 hp electric motor. This setup delivers a total output of 536 hp and a robust 553 lb-ft of torque for the crossover.

With this power, the GLE 53 Hybrid can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a quick 4.6 seconds and is electronically limited to a top speed of 155 mph. In addition to the high-tech powertrain, the GLE 53 Hybrid boasts several distinctive elements. These include a subtly updated front fascia that channels air to an additional heat exchanger.

There's also new hybrid badging and revised displays that provide hybrid-specific information, such as the charging status and remaining electric range. To handle the extra weight from the battery pack, the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension has undergone fine-tuning to cater specifically to the plug-in hybrid setup. Though specific details are somewhat limited, Mercedes has optimized it with new hardware and software.

Further upgrades include new rear dampers, fresh stabilizers for both the front and rear axles, and refinements to the chassis, steering, and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The GLE 53 Hybrid also introduces two hybrid-specific driving modes via the AMG Dynamic Select system: Electric and Battery Hold.

In Electric mode, the vehicle prioritizes battery usage, while Battery Hold mode conserves the battery charge for later use. As expected, the GLE 53 Hybrid prioritizes safety with the inclusion of an acoustic alert system designed to warn pedestrians of the vehicle's presence. This system emits a specially composed, low-frequency, and speed-modulated AMG sound through a speaker at the front and a soundbar with two speakers at the rear. More information will be released shortly.
