Volkswagen has recently introduced the updated 2025 VW Golf R and Variant. A revised bumper, slimmer headlights, and an illuminated Volkswagen emblem characterize the redesigned front end of the top-of-the-line Golf R, which is similar to that of the Golf GTI.

Around the back, there are wheels that are either 18 or 19 inches in diameter, stylish side skirts, and matte chrome mirrors. Other updates include redesigned taillights, a gloss black diffuser, and an exhaust system with four tailpipes.

Volkswagen stated, they “further developed it to enhance the acoustic feedback and... motorsport feel of the car.” New 19-inch Warmenau forged alloy wheels are available for customers seeking a sportier look; each wheel weighs only 17.6 lbs. This reduces their unsprung mass, making them around 20% lighter than conventional wheels.

A new set of 3D LED taillights with a flashing feature, upgraded IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, and an Akrapovič titanium exhaust are all available as optional extras for the Golf R. Additionally, there is the Golf R Black Edition, which comes with dark emblems, tinted headlights, and a variety of black parts, including wheels, brake calipers, and exhaust tips. The Performance bundle also includes the Black Edition as standard equipment.

Inside, the 2025 VW Golf R retains its upgraded 12.9-inch infotainment system with redesigned menus and better visuals. Drivers will be able to see the enhanced 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Versions with the Performance package now have G-meter and GPS lap timer screens. A new IDA voice assistant and access to ChatGPT are among the other updates, along with enhanced temperature settings and a sports steering wheel with "optimized" buttons.

In addition to the updated specs, the Golf R has performance seats and imitation carbon fiber accents. The 30-color ambient lighting system, blue accents, and stainless steel pedals are further notable features. An improved 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine provides the power, with 328 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This brings the model's power up to par with the Golf R 333 Limited Edition, an increase of 13 hp.

The engine connects to an all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring technology and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Because of this, the vehicles can reach speeds of 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds. Their maximum speed, with the Performance package, is 167 mph.

Sales will commence in Europe in June, with the unveiling of the US-spec Golf R scheduled for early 2019. Volkswagen of America has informed us that in addition to the basic Performance package, we will also get the Black Edition.
