As you probably remember, the 2023 Toyota bZ4X prototype was originally spotted back in April, however, the Japanese automaker hasn't divulged much about the future mid-size SUV's specs at the time.

Recently, the first of seven all-electric bZ family members, due in mid-2022, has been shown in production form in Japan in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations based on the specialized e-TNGA scalable foundation. As can be seen in the images, this 2023 Toyota bZ4X keeps the conceptual car's design.

Besides, the 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery within the 355-volt system is one of the most powerful in the world. For maximum efficiency, it's situated under the floor and is thermostatically monitored. The FWD model has a WLTP range of about 500 km (311 miles), whereas the heftier AWD model has a range of 460 km (286 miles).

The battery may be charged to 80% in 30 mins. With 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) sent to the front wheels, the FWD model accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.4 secs. There are two engines in the AWD version, one on each axle, providing 107 hp (80 kW / 109 PS), for a combined output of 215 hp. Although it's 187 lbs (85 kg) heavier, the AWD manages a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 7.7 secs due to the additional power and better traction.

The five-seater cabin should be roomy thanks to the BEV-dedicated architecture's compact packaging and the vehicle's large wheelbase. There will be three more all-electric variants after this one, according to Toyota's official video. The 2023 Toyota bZ4X will go on sale worldwide in mid-2022.

There will be seven bZs by 2025. Toyota's objective is to be carbon neutral by 2050, which will be made possible by a variety of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric, and fuel cell electric vehicles during the next few years.
