With the 2022 model year, Volkswagen of America will say its final goodbye to Passat, a sedan produced in Chattanooga, Tennessee. VW will honor the car's lifetime by releasing a 2022 Passat Special Edition.

The sedan family was the first car produced at Volkswagen's Chattanooga plant, which marked the automaker's return to American production. The line of unique 2022 Passat automobiles has been developed to honor the car's historical significance for the company.

The total number of 2022 Passat Limited Edition (1,973) is intended to mark Passat's debut year on the market in Germany. 411 will have an Aurora Red Metallic exterior and a Titan Black interior. The production code of the original car is represented by that number.

To honor the car's ties to Tennessee, 524 will be painted in Pure White with a Mauro Brown interior to signify the start of construction at VW's American facility on May 24. The number of Passats in Racing Green Metallic with a Mauro Brown interior has been chosen as 423, Chattanooga's phone area code. To commemorate 6 generations of Passat, 1 generation produced in Chattanooga, and 5 decades of sales in the United States, the final 615 will be completed in Platinum Grey Metallic with Titan Black interior.

Every 2022 Passat Limited Edition, regardless of color, will have unique wheels and mirror caps to set it apart from the others. They'll also come with 15-spoke 18 in alloy wheels, LED headlights with an improved Front-lighting technology, black mirror caps and an Easy-Open trunk. Inside, the vehicle gets special seat tags with a “1 of 1973” tag on one side and a “Chattanooga 2011” tag on another, indicating when the first Passat was built at Volkswagen's American plant.

A customized mat with an aerial map of Chattanooga and an aerial drawing of the plant is located in the cupholder. Comfy sport seats with perforated Vienna leather, memory feature for the adjustable driver's seat, heated seats, a power passenger seat, Fender Premium Audio, Park Assist, and automatic high beams are all available on the 2022 Special Limited Passat Edition.

“We've been selling some version of the Passat for nearly 50 years, and the Passat was the trigger for our connection with Chattanooga, which provides thousands of jobs,” said Scott Keogh, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. “With the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport in good demand, and the all-electric ID.4 SUV set to debut in North America next year, our potential in Chattanooga looks nicer than ever before.”

The US Passat differs from the European model, and it was sold in Canada, Korea, and the Middle East. The 2022 Limited Edition Passat has a starting price of $30,295 + $995 shipping. The Aurora Red Metallic color is the only one that can be ordered separately for an extra $395.
