Toyota Europe has officially unveiled the Hilux GR Sport, a new flagship model of the pickup with appearance and suspension modifications influenced by its Dakar Rally cousin. The EU-spec Toyota Hilux GR Sport differs from the JDM-spec vehicle with the same title, as well as from the Hilux Revo GR Sport which debuted in Thailand last year.

Toyota Hilux GR Sport is differentiated on the outside by a reworked front bumper with a large honeycomb grille with Toyota branding, a G-pattern mesh, and a shiny black frame. Taller ornamental intakes with fog lights, as well as a body-colored skid plate, enhance the front appearance. The flagship trim inherits the LED headlights from the facelifted Hilux's higher trims.

The 17-inch alloy wheels, which are shod in all-terrain tires and have a black and machined finish, are paired with plastic fender expansions, black mirror covers, and side-steps on the profile. The alterations are rounded up with GR Sport emblems on the grille, front doors, and tailgate.

In the cabin, Toyota installed GR Sport-branded sports seats with red perforations and piping. The GR Sport logo is on the carpet, the start/stop button, and the screen. A red line on the dash and oddly blue lighting on the door panels complete the package.

The suspension of the Toyota Hilux GR Sport has also been improved. The red paint on the new monotube shocks and strengthened front coil springs highlights the improvements. The Hilux GR Sport's rear suspension is similar to that of the lower models, using leaf springs.

Under the hood, the same 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel motor that debuted with the 2020 facelift produces 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. A six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters solely transmits power to all four wheels, with the aid of a basic automatic limited-slip differential.

In summer 2022, the EU-Spec Toyota Hilux GR Sport is slated to arrive in European dealerships. The price will be revealed closer to the debut date.
