2022 Subaru Solterra Will Boast A Redesigned Interior

A new EV platform jointly developed with Toyota underpins Subaru's first all-electric vehicle, the Solterra, a SUV designed for the European market. This is the first look at the 2022 Subaru Solterra's interior since its almost finished exterior was revealed last month, and it indicates that the two vehicles will share Toyota's curving center console, big widescreen central display, and wraparound-style gauge cluster.

According to Subaru, "Solterra" is a combination of the Latin words for sun and earth, and it was chosen to honor mother nature and improve the form of coexistence with it. The car could be dubbed the Evoltis, according to Japanese media reports.

The Solterra will be close in size to the Forester, which is currently powered by a combustion engine. Due to the flexibility to install motors on both axles, the architecture is designed to be very adjustable to allow for vehicles of various lengths and may be utilized for the front, rear, and four-wheel-drive layouts. It can also accommodate a variety of battery sizes. Toyota intends to produce six all-electric models using the e-TNGA platform in the near future.

Subaru hasn't revealed any further technical specifics about the new EV other than the same platform. The carmaker debuted an electric concept car at a technology conference in January, and the final production EV is expected to borrow design cues from it.

Subaru's first electric vehicle is a significant step forward in the company's electrification efforts. Forester, Impreza, and XC mild-hybrid variants were recently announced, and the company is hoping for at least 40% of worldwide sales to be electric or hybrid by 2030.

As a result of Subaru's new cooperation with Toyota, it no longer plans to use a pre-existing model developed on its Global Platform for its first electric vehicle.
