Before its official unveiling in the coming weeks, Mercedes-Benz has released yet another set of photos of the all-new SL. Aston Martin's Vantage and Porsche's 911 Cabriolet will be direct competitors for the new 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL, which will have an AMG-developed chassis and a two-plus-two seating configuration.

The new 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL seems low, broad, and sleek, with many of Mercedes' contemporary design characteristics bolstered with custom parts matching its position at the top of Merc's sports car lineup.

The Panamericana grille and shark-nose shape are more intimidating than ever, while the extremely narrow headlamps and shaped front wings seem clean and tightly wrapped around the powerplant beneath. Mercedes has already shown the interior design, which combines elements of the new S-class and the SL's illustrious ancestors.

The upright digital interface may be adjusted to enable visibility under sunlight when the roof is off. Over the digital dial pack is a retro-inspired cowelling and an AMG NACA design on the central console. The new SL's structure will be unique, like the Porsche 911's, with a majority of aluminium and crucial structural parts in high-strength steel.

The suspension strut towers are made of sophisticated aluminium castings, whereas the internal dash architecture is magnesium cast. This complex mix of components results in high stiffness, helping to counteract the open chassis' structural constraints, and an 18% improvement in torsional rigidity over the previous generation SL.

With a two-plus-two layout, the new 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL is more adaptable than the strict two-seater of the prior two generations, even though the back seats are only useful for very small kids. The new SL will be mechanically distinct from AMG's previous GT, losing its transaxle to make place for an electrified rear axle.

Combining this axle with AMG's 4-litre V8 will create a new flagship AMG car that will compete with the GT73e four-door and the upcoming AMG S-class. Unveiling of the 2022 SL is expected in the next weeks. This new model should help restore the SL's prior relevance.
